It's June everyone,- time for Pride! I identify as Ace, Abro/Aro-Spec, and Nonbinary/Genderqueer- as well as the corresponding umbrella terms such as Transgender, Gay, etc. Being Ace means not feeling a certain non-platonic attraction- for fear of scratch guidelines I will not explain more. The ace flag is black-grey-white-purple being Abromantic - often shortened to Abro- means that my romantic attraction is fluid, and that I may find myself romantically attracted to certain genders one day, a different gender another, or sometimes not feeling romantic attraction at all. The Abro flag is Pink-Pink-White-Green-Green Being transgender means identifying as a different gender than the one assigned to you at birth. Transgender is often shortened to Trans. In my case, the doctors assigned me the gender female when I was born, saying that I was a girl. However, I'm not a girl, I'm nonbinary. since my gender identity (nonbinary) is different than the gender they assigned me at birth, I am transgender. You will often see people shortening 'assigned female at birth' to AFAB and 'assigned male at birth' to AMAB, as these are terms commonly used in the trans community. The Transgender flag is blue-pink-white-pink-blue. Being nonbinary means identifying as a gender outside of Male or Female- which are considered the 'binary' genders. this can include masculine and feminine aligned genders, or genders that are entirely neutral, or people who do not identify as having a gender (people without a gender can also identify as Agender). Nonbinary is often shortened to 'enby'. Nonbinary can be used as a massive umbrella term, but can also be used as a singular identity to describe a gender identity outside of the binary genders. the Nonbinary flag is yellow-white-purple-black. Being genderqueer means experiencing gender differently- in a 'queer' way- this is a massive umbrella term that can be used to describe many different people and experiences, and can range from cisgender people to intersex people to transgender people and everyone inbetween. the genderqueer flag is purple-white-green. I use They/Them pronouns, as well as the Neopronouns Ki/Kir and Ve/Ver for people I consider close to me. Neopronouns are pronouns not officially in the english language, but used by people as part of their identity. Always use the proper pronouns for someone when addressing them! It doesn't matter if you use them correctly as long as you're trying <3
Thank you to every Queer person and Ally who has stood up over the years to ensure people like me have rights. And to my friends in the community today who have helped me through so much. My heart goes out to all of you, and may this month be filled with excitement and joy. <3 Some lesser known identities that I think deserve some recognition this month are: nmlnm/nonbinary lesbians polyromantics polyamorous relationships Agender/libregender identities Xenogender identities AroAces while I may not identify with any of these, they have incredibly little representation in media, and I believe they should get a chance to be recognized. <3 Representation matters!
