I discovered something about vector sprites in Scratch: it turns out that if either the width or height (or both) of the costume is greater than 512px, the visual quality of the sprite on the Stage (not the editor) is reduced. This quality reduction is more apparent if the sprite is enlarged. Make sure to see inside to view the sprites. Go to the second sprite's paint editor and shift the gray rectangle up one unit so that the costume dimensions are 96×512 px. Notice how the sprite quality (on the Stage) suddenly improves!
