Instructions

The third Albion contractor to begin was Northern Television, on the 24th of June 1957, covering a catchment area including Yorkshire, Merseyside, Lincolnshire, and Lancashire. The station's audience was served by the Emley Moor, Pontop Pike and Winter Hill transmitting stations. The station's first and only symbol was this, an upwards-facing arrow, suspiciously similar to Granada of ITV's, introduced a year before. Despite its large broadcast area, Northern would eventually lose out in the first franchise round and end transmissions on the 9th of January 1967, due to the boundaries being reassigned. The former Northern would become four, Merseyside Broadcasting Service, TeleNorth, Humber Television, and Television North East.
