Instructions

Ave amici! This is a very late and unplanned 100+ follower special (I was originally going to do a DTA, and I still probably will), but about a couple hours ago or so I said, "Hey, I want to draw some more dragons." So I did, and then I decided that I could do an art process out of it since I've been wanting to do one anyway. I don't have the most efficient way of shading and coloring but this is how I did this piece and how I'll probably do them in the future. Alright, enough talking I guess. Press space or click to change steps. 1) Sketching: I usually use a pencil brush to sketch but I didn't for some reason, idk why. For some reason I get detailed on my sketches so that's why I have every scale drawn out... 2) Lineart: This is absolutely my LEAST favorite stage of art- I hate doing lineart. I've recently evolved from more of a sketchy lineart style (heck, at one point my lineart WAS my sketch, just cleaned up), and I think it looks nicer this way. A lot of times I'll find that I want to change or add something, like here I forgot that a SilkWing's antennae actually started from the end of the eye ridge, until I looked at my ref again. I erased part of it and connected it to there because I'm probably the laziest artist to exist. 3) Color: I add the base color(s). I make a new layer and color underneath the lineart. Sometimes I'll only do the primary color (Pronuba's is the lavender color) and using my program's transparency lock to color the other parts, but recently I've been just doing with the base colors. 4) Eyes: I color the eyes separately. I've changed back to having colors for the pupils rather than just pupils and no color (in humans at least) and much previously the whites, iris color, and pupils. I've been kind of debating whether I want to change back to the latter. 5) Eye shading: I add extra color to the eyes 6) Shine: Self-explanatory. I don't usually add shine to eyes but I thought it would look good in this piece. 7) Shading/extra color: I add more color with the airbrush. I don't do this too often but I might because I like this technique because it gives shading and makes it look prettier. 8) Background: I did a simple background that I thought would look nice, and added my signature. 9) Border? I guess: idk what this is really called but I added the white background to make her pop out of the portrait more. And done! I'm using this as my icon now uvu So there's my art process, sorry I talked a lot but I hope that this was interesting to you or helpful in any way. Thanks for reading all this if you did!
