The cave system was far, FAR below the surface of the world. Any possible entrances were well hidden, and well guarded. Sure, the river ran down from the valleys above through small pockets of the cavern, creating rooms of calm and quiet, but in order to get down here, the water had to go through darkest tunnels and raging rapids. Any living creatures were often torn to shreds or beaten to pulp by the time they reach the caverns… if they hadn’t drowned first. So it was not totally unreasonable for Spenna to ask the child: “How did you get down here, little one?” - - - - - I did a sketch of this a long time ago, so im glad i finally got to do a better version
