Chap 2. The Intruder A sharp scream cuts through the silent air inside the house and she bolts toward the scream, seeing her mother cowering in the corner in front of an intruder, dressed all in black. The intruder whirls around and Ariel freezes time, only for the intruder. Chase and Ariel rush over to their mother’s side, whose eyes are wide with fear. “Mom…” Ariel manages. “Mom, are you okay? What did this guy do to you?” Her mother suddenly screams and points behind them and Ariel whirls around, quick as lightning, and is able to stop the intruder which was about to leave the room in retreat. She grabs the man dressed in black by the throat and hisses, “Who are you and what do you want?” The intruder, unable to breathe, is able to whisper, “I mean you no harm. I didn’t want to do this.. My father is making me…” Ariel realizes his face is purple and gently lets him go, setting him down on the floor, staring as he tries to recover his breath. “Take off the hood,” she commands, and instantly the intruder obeys, terrified that he might lose his breath once again. As Ariel watched him take off his hood and saw the beauty that lay underneath, she found her cheeks reddening. She shook her head, violet hair covering her eyes. “Why are you here?” The intruder shakes out his hair, then locks eyes with Ariel, who lowers her gaze to the floor. “I’m the son of a criminal. I have to do what my father wants me to do or else I could get seriously hurt…” he states quietly. “What’s your name?” Ariel asks suspiciously. “My name is Jameson Wilson. James for short. And who might you be?” “Ariel. Ariel Wood. Now, if you want to lay low, I suggest going to school with us.” she replies. “Great. When do I start?” “Today. After school, we’ll start your training.” Ariel starts to walk away. “Life will be interesting with you in it, Miss Ariel Wood.” he mutters, smiling as he did.
