York & Red Lion 5 was built in 1942 and was the railroad's last steam engine. it last operated in 1958 and then put in storage with other bits of rolling stock inside a large engine shed in york. In 1967 investors started work rebuilding the line for tourist and freight operations. It took them 6 years to restore the locomotive and it is running nowadays only out of service for maintenance.
