Instructions

A few hours later, the six of us at the school were in Brazen and Harlow’s room. I was getting attacked by many, many questions. Brazen and Shadow were mostly quiet, throwing in a few statements or questions here and there. They were mostly glad that the monster was gone and I was me again. Calli was more concerned about whether /I/ as a person was okay, and she was asking quite a few questions. Harlow, on the other hand, wanted to know everything that I was comfortable sharing, from when I first had the suspicion of the monster switching hosts up to when I banished it. Naomi was silent, mostly there for moral support. As usual, she blended into the background, but when the cacophony of voices became too much, she stepped up. “Alright, one at a time. You know how to talk in an orderly manner.” Calli went first. “You are okay, right? The monster is gone?” I shrugged. “99%. It’ll never be fully gone, but the part that can actually do any damage is out.” She nodded, reassured. Harlow went next. “What happened? Tell the story from when you first noticed it to when you banished it. Whatever you’re comfortable with sharing, of course.” I took a deep breath and started the tale, beginning from the start of the year and ending in Ren’s cave. I left out Naomi’s and my fight. There was no way I was disclosing that. It took a good three minutes to finish my story. After I finished there was silence for a few seconds. Brazen raised his hand. “Did anyone else see Ren shoot the monster with electricity?” I realized that I’d left that part out of my story. I nodded, and so did Naomi, Calli, Harlow, and Shadow. “I can ask him later,” Shadow said. I stood up. “Or we could do it right now.” “No, you need to rest, Wolf-” Naomi protested. “I did my resting, three days of it. I can go outside if I want to, I’ve been awake for three hours now,” I snapped back. I didn’t mean for it to sound harsh, but I wasn’t some helpless, fragile little thing simply because I’d been unconscious for three days. Shadow stood and followed me outside. I heard Harlow mumble to Naomi, “Let him go,” as Shadow and I left the room.
