Smol rant Soooooo well. I used to be all wow I am so annoyed by those repetitive cat comics, people are only doing what’s popular! And wow that’s not unique. Loving rants and all that, no favoriting because I love my aesthetics. But no. That is a VERY unopen and possibly toxic mindset. Who are we to set the standards for what creativity is? Art is a thing of abstractness and expression. As I’ve started to tell myself and others when told “my art is no good”. Art cannot truly be rated or graded. There is no such thing as good or bad Art. Just Art. Now stolen art is whole other thing, but that’s not the topic at hand. I’ve noticed some very seemingly nice scratchers I used to agree with say some preeeettty rude stuff. “All those cats with ears the size of their heads and cheek fluff” or smth. This is WRONG who’s to say we HAVE to draw cats like in real life? These things have been said by people who draw cats or dragons or humans or whatever. Why is this art community becoming so unwelcoming? You wouldn’t like it if I told you you couldn’t draw dragons because they aren’t real. Or that you HAVE to draw cats photo realistically. No no no. That is so wrong and hurtful. I understand people want variety and that it seems like people are doing cats for popularity. But really some/most of us just draw what we want. Deal with it. You draw your dragons and your humans etc and we’ll draw our unrealistically proportioned cats. We draw what we want. Scratch is not a place for art critics. “The eyes are too big” “that’s not what a cat looks like” “I HATE all those cat comics” All things that seem to be commonly said. And people AGREE. there are thousands of comments from the art community like “I totally agree” Half of those people draw cats the same way the scratcher is ranting about? Saying someone’s way of drawing is unrealistic or uncreative is in most case hypocritical and very harmful. Unless they are tracing they aren’t really being unoriginal. Everything created by an individual is its own unique piece. Cat comics can be great! It hurts to see a scratcher you look up to post something that seems to insult you and a majority of the community. All art is art. Cat art stylized. Comical. Realistic Is all art Don’t let realism limit a craft that is based off imagination. When did art have to be life-like? Let’s all be better community members.
