The classroom was dead silent. Not even a pin drop of sound echoed through the hallways, except for the violent scribble of sharpened pencils scraping against smooth white paper. Miranda stared at her empty test paper. She hadn’t written a single thing--and it was multiple choice! Miranda practically drowned herself into the commotion of scrambled numbers on her test sheet. ‘Bobby played really well in his last baseball match. Find the MAD of his data from the table below…’ Miranda scrunched up her eyebrows. MAD? She was stressed, not mad at the moment. If only she had paid more attention in class, maybe she would’ve known what ‘MAD’ had meant. Miranda started clicking her pen, earning some annoyed groans from her classmates who were clearly trying to finish the test. Today was Pi day and their math teacher decided that it would be SO FUN to make her students complete a test that wasn’t even related to pi! If only there was a “pie” day… that would probably be Miranda’s favorite day all year round. Miranda chewed on the top of her pen, dreaming about a delicious Boston Cream Pie, and although it was more of a cake than a pie, Miranda loved the oozing toffee her mimi melted inside, and the chocolate covered almonds draped across the sides of the crumbly, sweet, vanilla cake. Paired with her favorite “Heaven” smoothie, (honey, mango, milk, strawberry, cranberry nectar, and vanilla) it was a sugary delight! Miranda glanced dreamily at the beige tiled ceiling of her classroom, licking her lips. Miranda…? Miranda smiled, her eyes foggy from daydreaming. The hot winds in the classroom slapped her face and she wasn’t sitting at her desk anymore. She was at her mimi’s house, a small cottage near a metropolitan village. Mimi had ten different cysts ready to be baked sitting on the countertops of her kitchen. Miranda? Mimi smiled warmly at Miranda and poured a gooey strawberry syrup into one of the soft crusts. Miranda! Next Mimi took her fragile hands and poured two gooey syrups, a mixture of purple and blue, into the second pan. Miranda!? Mimi repeated the process, ending with a one of a kind grand finale. She walked over to the fridge and pulled out an extra large Boston Cream Pie and poured a barrel full of creamy chocolate ganache. Miranda smiled, happily. If she could go anywhere, she would go to wherever they served you pie for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. “MIRANDA!?” Miranda yelped, coming awkwardly face to face with her math teacher. “Ms. Pie… What a surprise!” Miranda exclaimed with a nervous chuckle, eyeing her blank test paper. “I expected more from you Miranda. I had hoped the fact I called your parents would make you focus a little more but I guess not.” With a disappointed sigh, Ms. Pie walked away with Miranda’s blank test paper. Miranda sighed, frowning slightly. If only pie could fix her terrible grades… By : Hope <3
