Sunday, October 31. Halloween, and also my birthday - although this year it was not a full moon, thank goodness. The twins were part of the group that put up decorations. Said decor might have scared the first or second years, but I was used to them by now - on account of the fact that Brazen and Harlow took pleasure in putting way more than I thought necessary outside my room. My present from Naomi: show and tell. She dragged me over to my dorm. I opened the door and we walked in. “What do you want to show me?” I asked. “I figured out something I can do,” she said mysteriously. I sighed. “Please tell me I have a say in whether I do this or not.” She laughed. “You do, don’t worry.” “So, what is it?” “Just trust me, Wolf.” “Fine. I trust you.” I hated other people being mysterious, but that didn’t stop me from keeping many secrets of my own. Naomi grabbed my wrist, and the world spun. We appeared behind a tree, near a clearing. A tiny, two-bedroom cottage sat in the middle of the break in the trees. “Where are we?” I whispered. “I-I don’t know. That was not how it was supposed to go,” Naomi replied, also whispering. “What?” I hissed. “I thought we were going to go back to yesterday!” she hissed back. “What do you mean, go back to yesterday?” I asked. “I- shhh, listen.” Naomi turned toward the clearing. There were two people on the porch, a boy and a girl. The boy looked about 11, maybe 12, and the girl looked one year older. “Listen, Ren, I can’t help if you don’t let me,” the girl began. “I know, Gloria, but I don’t know how you can help,” the boy replied, his voice muffled, head in his hands. “/Ren/?” I whispered in shock at the same time as Naomi muttered, “He has a sister?” I shrugged, and we turned back to listen. Ren seemed to still have his monster. “Just tell me if I can. I know you’ve had difficulty over these past years,” Gloria said comfortingly. “That’s the thing!” Ren exclaimed, looking up. “It’s gotten stronger. I can’t control it, and I can barely predict it.” “What if you… I don’t know, gave up some? Then I could share your burden?” Gloria suggested. Ren didn’t reply. He was probably thinking. Naomi turned to me. “I can go to the past now. I knew how to get back from a past close to the present, but I don’t know how to get back from this far.” I swore silently. “We can ask them for help,” I suggested, gesturing to Ren and Gloria. She shook her head. “Anything we do now will have repercussions in the present. This isn’t like when I teleported us into the memories. This is real, we are legitimately here.” “Oh. Then we’re stuck for now, I guess.” “I think I can figure out how to get back, but I need time.” “I can watch them while you focus,” I suggested. She nodded. “That works. Thanks.” I turned back to the siblings while Naomi stepped back from the tree.
