The rest of September and most of October passed smoothly. I didn’t get any more ominous notes or crystals. Still not sure how I felt about that. On the second day of Fall Break, we were in my room playing Circle of Secrets. The first people to get picked by the bottle were Brazen and Harlow. It landed in between the two of them, and to avoid arguing we just agreed that they would both share. One glance was all they needed to communicate with the special twin connection they had but didn’t. “We met people from a different world yesterday,” they said in unison. I whistled in amazement. “What world?” I was partially curious about whether or not that world had anything to do with the green and teal crystals tucked away on my bookshelf. “Well, they said they were elves, and they live near the Kaka Forest and Rojay beach,” Harlow said. I nodded. “Never heard of it.” Elves… maybe that’s what the note meant? The twins both laughed. “That’s exactly what I said!” Brazen said, grinning. Naomi smiled. “What were their names?” “They were twins,” Brazen started. “One was Sadie and one was Eddie,” Harlow finished. Calli nodded. “Are they still here or did they leave?” “As far as we know, they left,” Harlow said. “Did you just talk or did you see anything?” Shadow asked quietly. “They showed us a hidden cave they found, we showed them Carlos’s treehouse village,” Brazen answered. “Don’t worry, they were nice,” he added for Naomi’s benefit. Thankfully, I was not landed on. Shadow shared a bit of information about her family, Calli showed a few of her drawings, and that’s all we got to before dinner. Afterwards, I walked inside my room and glanced over at my desk. Still no new gems. I laid onto my bed, heading off to sleep. I woke up a few hours later, though from what I wasn’t sure. I glanced over at the window, and thought I saw a glimpse of unnatural shadows before it was gone. I rolled over and tried to get back to sleep.
