The next day after classes, the six of us, including Dusk, headed towards the dining hall for the first meeting of the Powers and Talents club. To say that Dusk was excited would be a major understatement. They were nearly bouncing off the walls. Shadow was excited as well, she had liked my mini-lessons I’d given her and her father, but she wanted to learn more first hand. After Professor Brooks signed us in, the seven of us split off into our groups; Naomi to Professor Malone for the Telepaths and Memorias, Brazen to Professor Raymond for the Shifters, Harlow to Professor Brooks for the Shades, Calli to Professor Glinda for the Healers, Dusk to Professor Randy for Frosters, and Shadow and I to Professor Ryan for werewolves. That day, our small group of werewolves were taught how to protect ourselves from monsters like Ren and Cozbi’s. The idea of how most monsters formed was either from getting passed down from another werewolf or your own regrets and negative thoughts combined with the overall stress from the bite. It was effectively a positive self-talk lesson. Powers and Talents ended around a half hour before dinner, so the six of us followed Dusk outside and down to the woods. Shadow went to teach Ren what we’d learned, Naomi and Harlow went to the Treehouse Village, Calli and Brazen went to the Wolf fruit grove, while Dusk and I hung out by her platform. She showed me what she had learned, and I demonstrated a few bits and pieces of my own special talents. After a bit more casual conversation, I returned to the others and we went back up to the school for dinner. After dinner, we went into our dorms. Something was lying on my desk in the place where letters usually landed. I walked over to look at it, confused. It was a small, black crystal, lying on a note that read /Use this wisely if you ever need to escape the confinements of your mind./ If that’s not ominous, I don’t know what is. I wrapped the crystal in the note and shoved it up on a corner of my bookshelf on the desk, saving it for if I did ever need it. With that one extra unsettling thing on my mind, I walked back over to my bed and laid down, taking a little longer than usual to fall asleep.
