hello. before you yell at me about how diversity months are important, i am fully aware. that's not my point. please read before you argue with me :) - - - - as many of you (should) know, march is women's history month. my english teacher, who is awesome, by the way, decided to do a brief introduction to an influential woman every day. which is great and fantastic. so, i hear you asking, "fin, why does this deserve a rant?" because, my dear friends, people are idiots. they are small-minded, ignorant idiots. not everyone, mind you, but you know what i mean. this group of kids in my class (you know the group) says "well why isn't there a men's history month or a white history month?" istg my teacher looked ready to throw him out of the window. her response? "because every month is men's history month. every month is white male month." and it's true. quite frankly, i'm disgusted we even NEED these diversity months. not because of what they stand for, but the fact that people need to be made aware that minorities face the discrimination they do. let's try something. off the top of your head, list five great achievers. inventors, explorers, political figures. i'll bet very few, if any, were women, people of color, LGBTQ+, or another minority. why? because history is written by the winners. those that are automatically "superior" because of the color of their skin, birthplace or status, who they love, or what gender they were assigned. so yeah. february? celebrate black history. march? women's history and gender equality. june? pride month. september? hispanic heritage month. november? native american month. december? human rights. but not just their respective months. every day. we need to acknowledge and celebrate everyone every single day. because we're humans. and that in itself is pretty darn cool :) disclaimer: it's, like, almost midnight and i'm tired. bear with me on any errors. disclaimer: this was not meant to offend anyone. this simply came from a statement that offended /me/, and i wanted to say something
