One month later, the five of us were planning to head down to the woods after finishing up some school work. Ever since the dance, Ren had been a little more open, but he was nowhere near transparency. That was fine with me, we all had our secrets we’d never share. My window was open and the curtains were drawn back, letting the June breeze blow through. I looked up from my Creative Writing essay to see Dusk hanging upside down from a tree. They caught my eye and waved. I smiled and waved back. “Hey Wolf, you coming?” Naomi called through my open door. Yep, I said open. Yet another thing a little different than normal. My door wasn’t hiding my room today, even though I was writing this essay about werewolves. “Yeah, just give me a sec,” I called back, finishing off the essay with a flourish. Brazen, Harlow, Calli, and Naomi were standing in the hallway. I stood and looked at the calendar. The full moon was in two days. And yet, instead of the usual dread that followed, it just felt like any other day. After one last glance at my reorganized desk, I turned to walk outside with my friends. Yes, I’m a werewolf. It took a while, but I’d finally realized that that wasn’t a bad thing - it was my own power. Society could tell me all they wanted, only I had control over my memories and thoughts. Okay, me and Naomi, but still. After fifteen years of feeling like who I was was bad, I’d finally turned my curse into a gift of my own.
