“I’ll buy you candy if we go to the Cauldron first,” I offered. He pretended to think about it for a moment, but I knew he was hooked. “Deal.” We went down the road to Mom’s potion shop and opened the door, the usual welcoming bell dinging. There were no customers there at the moment. Mom was cleaning the counter from a spill, and looked up at the bell. Her face broke into a warm smile. “Acwulf! You’re home!” I nodded, returning the smile. Raza started browsing the shelves. I walked up to the counter. “What spilled?” “Just a healing potion. They’re ridiculously easy to make, it’s fine,” Mom answered, washing the rag in a sink nearby. I nodded. “How many potions have you sold?” “Today? Probably about 15 or 20. Why?” “Just curious. Professor Brooks said that I might want to start one of these at some point, since he thinks I’m good with potions, so I wanted to know how much you, like, sell and stuff.” She nodded. “That’s great, but I read some of your stories you left. They’re really good - Raza, be careful. How many times do I have to tell you? Those potion bottles are glass, you know. Anyway, you might want to pursue that as a career, too.” Raza had been walking around the store, and bumped into a table while Mom was talking with me. “Sorry, Mom,” he said, just barely catching the bottles - and his glasses - as they fell. “Raza, do you want to go to Sweets Galore now?” I asked him, mainly to draw him away from the glass potion bottles inside Mom’s store. He looked over from the table. “Yes yes yes!” Mom nodded her thanks to me as Raza and I walked outside. We went across the square to Sweets Galore. Most of the students had left now, leaving just Epifano and Ezra. The sound of the bell as you open the door of Sweets Galore will never get old. Epifano looked up from the counter. “Good afternoon, Raza, Acwulf,” he said, smiling his usual kind smile. Ezra was weighing bags of candy behind the counter, while Epifano went to the back room. “So, what can I get you boys?” Ezra asked, setting aside the bags of candy. Raza looked up at me, pushing his glasses up on his face. “What will you get me?” I smiled. “Anything you want. I’ll have a bag of the Chocolate-Peanut Chunks, please.” Ezra nodded. “And what about you, Raza?” He pressed his nose against the glass separating him from the candy. “The Sugar-Coated Cherry Chocs, please.” Ezra smiled and reached down for two bags. “Coming right up.” Raza and I waited patiently while he weighed and packaged our candy. “2 gold per bag, please,” he said, handing over the candy. I pulled out two pieces of gold and handed them to him. I gave Raza his bag. “Thanks, Ezra,” Raza said, running out the door. “No problem. Enjoy your day,” he said to me, then resumed weighing the candy he’d been weighing when we came in. I followed my little brother out the door, finding him on the fountain. I sat down next to him, and we both ate our candy.
