Near the end of April is when Spring Break started. Unlike Winter Break, Spring Break was only one week. We agreed we’d visit our family. Naomi made sure Carlos knew where to teleport, and we all boarded the train. We sat in the middle of the train, Brazen, Calli and Harlow sharing the seat on the right of the aisle, Naomi and I sharing the seat on the left. Harlow and I had the window seats. The train had maroon carpeting and gray seats. Today was April 25. The full moon was tomorrow, and Spring Break lasted until May 1. The train stopped at Woodville first, which was Calli’s village. She waved goodbye to us as she stepped off the train. A few stops later, the train arrived at Maybell. Brazen and Harlow’s home. Naomi and I saw the two of them off the train, Harlow waving to us as the train departed their station. After four or five train stops later, we got to Petersville. Naomi’s village. She hugged me quickly, then stood and walked off the train. “See you in a week, Wolf.” I nodded, watching her go. I sat alone in my seat until the train arrived at my destination: Welsburry Village. I stood and walked down the aisle. The second my foot touched the ground of the train station, I grabbed my backpack from the luggage person and ran down the path to the village. As much as I enjoyed school, I would always miss home. The first sight that greeted me as I ran down the path was Epifano’s candy shop, Sweets Galore. I wasn’t the only one from Welsburry that went to my school, and quite a few students were inside the shop. Epifano’s assistant, Ezra, waved at me through the window he was cleaning. I slowed to a walk and waved back. A ring of shops and houses circled the town square, Sweets Galore included. There was a crystal clear fountain in the center of the square. I turned down the pathway that led back behind the storefronts. After a minute or so of walking, my house came into view. Raza was running around outside, chasing our dog, Loki. Raza saw me and immediately switched courses, running full speed toward me. “Wolf!” he cried excitedly. I slowed to a stop, grinning as Raza ran into me. I stumbled backward, hugging him back. “Did you have fun at school?” Raza asked, along with a million other questions. I laughed. “If you stop talking I’ll tell you.” He resorted to grabbing my hand and dragging me to the house, while I told him most of the happenings at WSoM. My dad was home, in the kitchen. He was an amazing cook. Today he was making my personal favorite, his classic pasta casserole. Raza dragged me inside. “Dad, Dad! Wolf’s home!” Dad looked over from the counter, his face breaking into a smile. “Welcome home, Acwulf.” I grinned back. “Thanks. Where’s Mom?” “The Cauldron,” he said, naming Mom’s potion shop. “Wolf, can you come into town with me? Mom and Dad won’t let me go alone,” Raza said, playing with a small wooden carving of a squirrel he’d made himself. I nodded. “Sure. Just let me put my stuff away.” Raza nodded excitedly, letting go of my hand so I could race up the steps to my bedroom. I opened the door and threw my backpack down. My room here was different from my room at school, but very similar too. I had a desk in one corner, a bed by the door, a bookshelf on the right wall, and a dresser on the other wall. I took one last look at the room, then turned and ran down the steps, where Raza was waiting impatiently. “Ready?” I asked him. Raza nodded. I walked with him out the door and down the path, Loki following along beside us. When we reached the entrance to town, I turned to my brother. “Where to?” “I want to talk with Ezra,” he said, his usual excuse for wanting candy.
