Description

Happy Valentine's Day! To celebrate, I drew Hanako and Nene Yashiro from Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun getting married! For any fans of the anime/manga, don't worry, there are no spoilers here! I also want to apologize in advance for the horribly, pixelated, Scratch quality of the drawing. Since there was so much detail I wanted to add, the canvas had to be big, messing up the already bad quality pictures are when uploaded onto Scratch. Without further ado, let's move on to my analysis of my drawing process! 1 - Rough Sketch - This was by far the most difficult part of making this. Posing characters is something I find to be very difficult, that's why I've been putting characters I draw into crazy poses recently. After all, the only way to improve is to keep trying! I had to do a lot of heavy referencing from other pictures and stuff to get this to look just right. This especially applies to their arms. Oh boy, their arms and hands gave my quite the trouble, but eventually I figured it out. 2 - Refined Sketch - This part was a lot of fun; drawing cute clothes on characters makes me happy. However, I can't take credit for the design. In Chapter 50, there was a little drawing and Yashiro and Hanako in wedding attire (this isn't a spoiler, they weren't actually getting married, it was just a drawing off to the side), and I stole that. I did choose the type of flowers on my own though. Brownie points go to whoever guesses what type they are. 3 - Color - This part is normally my favorite, but I found coloring this piece was actually quite frustrating. It was specifically frustrating to color Yashiro. Her gradient hair is always kind of a pain, but it was her dress that really killed me. I didn't want everything to be the same shade of white, so I color different aspects of her outfit with a slightly different shade of white. It isn't even noticeable, but I still wanted to do it. This made it difficult to tell if I was using the wrong shade for a certain part of her dress, and often I knew I did mess up, I just didn't know where. I would have to start from the beginning after that, which wasn't too fun. However, I am very pleased with the end result. 4 - Back Ground - I actually did the back ground before the line art and coloring, but there's an ugly hole in the middle of it where Hanako and Yashiro and standing (if you want to see that and an extremely old piece of Hananene fan art I made, there's a sprite on the inside titled "trash" and you can see them in the costumes section). Unlike everything else, I drew the back ground in FireAlpaca instead of PaintToolSAI version 1. I did this because I like FireAlpaca's brushes and settings more for making back grounds. I'm really happy how this turned out (even though I literally just drew one tree and duplicated it a bunch of times). I don't draw back grounds too often, so I decided to draw one for this piece. I really need the practice. Originally, I was just going to draw a simplistic back ground with a few other characters from TBHK, but then I decided this piece deserved better than that. I removed the characters from the back ground too, because I thought they might be distracting from the main couple (and mostly because I didn't want to take the time to draw more characters). Out of all the steps, this one took the longest. At least it wasn't the hardest, like the rough sketch. 5 - Shading - I don't have much to say about this step other than that it took me a long time to do. Certainly not as long as the background. However, it still took me awhile, which is pretty sad considering the shading isn't even that detailed, but whatever. I'm happy with the result. During this step, I also shaded the back ground a little more too. Although, it's hardly noticeable. 6 - Lighting - This step didn't take me very long, and I finished it very quickly. Like the shading step, I gave the back ground a little more lighting, but it still isn't all that noticeable. 7 - Final - I just added my signature at the bottom. I tried messing around with color filters and such to see if I could make it look better, but both my dad and I agreed the original was the best.
