happy lunar new year!! in this project, there are two things to do. - play the dragon game - make a lantern !! MAKE SURE YOU CLICK THE FLAG AGAIN AFTER ANY OF THE ACTIVITIES !! How to play the dragon game: MOVE your MOUSE, UP and DOWN to control where the dragon goes. Collect coins to earn a point/score. You only have a one minute timer, if you beat the high score, congrats :) Make a Lantern: CLICK the slides to find out how to create it. What is lunar year? Lunar year is a year where many people celebrate it in East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities, and more. The Lunar year is celebrated usually in February. The chinese community would use fireworks, loud sounds and wear the colour red for good luck. Traditions are that you would spend time with family, and feast with them. You would usually be handed a red envelope containing money inside. A legend about lunar year: Dated back around many thousands of years ago, a monster or dragon named Nian ("year") would appear and attack villagers at the beginning of each new year. Although everyone was afraid, the monster did have a weakness, loud noises and the colour red. Those were used to chase the monster away. That's why every year, usually in February the Chinese communities would have a big great party to scare off the dragon. Do's and Dont's (myths) Do - Put up some festival decorations. Do - Eating with the family Do - Passing out red envelopes and gifts. Do - Use FireCrackers and Fire works. Do - Watch the dragon dance for entertainment. Don't - Wash your hair/body. Washes away your wealth Don't - Sweep. Wiping away the good luck. Don't - Cut. Can lead to fighting in the coming year. Don't - Eat porridge. It can lead to poverty.
