Tap or space to proceed! Please remix if you try this so I can see your results and improve the way I teach! Maybe more tutorials in the future? We’ll see! This is the most basic run cycle you can create. However, it is (mostly) anatomically correct and hopefully is a good starting point for beginners to improve on! Enjoy!
This is for a cat but can be adapted to fit any animal with four legs. I recommend studying videos of real animals moving to learn how to animate them well! PRO TIPS! Go slowly and carefully follow your guide or reference. 90% of the time if your animation looks “off” or wobbly it’s because you missed a step or didn’t copy the poses correctly. Don’t trace, but pay close attention to the way each limb looks and copy it into your own style. I didn’t do this but I should have. Draw a line for the ground before you start and copy it to each frame so the “height” of the ground where the paws touch never changes! Helps keep your legs a consistent length too! When you animate, try to draw as little as possible when sketching. If a part stays the same shape, copy, paste, and rotate into a new position. I know it sounds a little unusual and “cheaty” but working smarter, not harder, will keep your animation smooth and consistent. Make sure you draw your lineart by hand every frame or it will look stiff, the copy-paste method is only for sketching.
