okay then let's see if y'all like my new book Amell enjoyed xyr life. Living in her cell was bearable. In fact, she rather enjoyed it. Once a week xe was allowed out to talk to the other prisoners and play Scrabble or Monopoly. Somethings never changed, and that was how Amell liked it. She looked up as the prisoner across from her woke up, yawning. Xe grimaced. New prisoners were carried into their cells sleeping. They’d wake up and need an explanation for why they were locked into a cell, and why there were two words spelled out in Scrabble letters in the corner. “Good morning,” Amell said, smiling. “I’m Amell. Amell Wyodne. Welcome.” “Where am I?” they asked, rubbing their eyes. “Do you see the Scrabble letters?” xe asked. “Yes?” they answered. “What do they say?” “They, um, say Chani Theg- Thegeg- Thegegw?” “Your first and last name,” Amell explained calmly. “Once a week we’re allowed out to socialize, play board games, and go to the library.” “Where are we?” Chani asked. “I…” her smile slipped, giving way to a frightened, lonely expression that scared her, but more importantly, scared Chani, as she quickly reminded xemself. “I don’t know.” Amell admitted. “Nobody does.” A burly guard came down the hall, unlocking and throwing open the door of Chani’s cell. She grabbed the scrawny kid and threw them over her shoulder as they screamed. “Help!” they shouted desperately as they were carried off down the hall to the scientist’s lab. “HELP!” Amell sighed sympathetically. Xe still remembered her first ‘visit’ with the scientist. It hadn’t been pleasant. “Hey, Amell!” A voice from the hallway yanked her out of her thoughts. Xe looked up to see Teddy waving their arm at her. “Hey, Teddy. What’s up?” She smiled. “Have you seen Eva?” he asked, looking worried. “She went to the lab and hasn’t come back.” Teddy looked so nervous it was all Amell could do not to seem afraid. Instead, xe smiled kindly at aloe. “I’m sure it’s fine, Teddy. After all, the scientist never really hurts us, do they?” “Not really,” they said slowly. “Then I’m sure she’s fine,” xe repeated. “She’s fine,” aloe echoed as he lay down on their bed. “She’s fine…” Smiling kindly at the younger child, Amell yawned. Xe sighed in contentment. This kind of life was just right for her. Screams echoed down the hall from the scientist’s lab. Xe barely noticed them. At least, that's what she told xemself. She did notice. She just didn’t want to. Xe lay down on the cot, wrapping xemself in the light red blanket. She smiled faintly again as xe closed her eyes. The lights dimmed as a reminder to sleep. “Goodnight,” a quiet voice called. “Goodnight,” another repeated. The hallways filled with the sounds of “Goodnight” as all wished each other a restful night. Amell smiled as she slipped quietly into a warm, contented, dreamless sleep.
