Male and female great spotted woodpeckers both drum and, in the Spring, often together. The male (red patch on head) drums first, then the female (no red patch on head) drums. The drumming is between 10 and 20 taps per second, and fades in volume. Salsa rhythm based on my deCODING salsa scratch project, in turn inspired by Salsa music.
