It is testing the reaches of their powers, to see if they can telepathically talk with other beings. Backstory :: Orbit was born deaf, and they didn't talk much, as they couldn't ever hear an answer. Nobody knew of this, however, and they told it many things that it could not hear. Many kids bullied them about their silent behavior, but Orbit didn't mind, as they couldn't hear the bullies' snooty remarks. Orbit thought that its condition was sort of a gift, as they could think peacefully. But one night, they heard a voice. It was startled and tracked the sound to a small light glowing outside. The light was screaming in panic, and soon Orbit saw a bird zooming toward the light, its claws outstretched, ready to grab it at a moment's notice. Orbit ran to the bird, waving its paws at it, yelling and screaming for it to go away. The bird flew off, and the light landed on Orbit's shoulder. It made a chirping sound, and Orbit realized that the light was a bug of sorts. A firefly. Soon, millions of fireflies surrounded the surprised cat, chirping and screaming with delight. Orbit then realized that the fireflies were communicating through their mind, and Orbit was more than surprised. The fireflies pelted them with praise, their chirps turning into voices. "You have saved our kind!" one said in delight, "How can we repay you?" Orbit knew what they wanted from the fireflies. That thing was friends. Every night, Orbit would go out at midnight to meet with its firefly friends.
