in light of some IssUes, i've manifest all the passive aggressive vibes possible, and have concocted yet another written rant: Listen folks, stop running around accusing people of "art style" and "design" theft. Now hear me out-- it's one thing if someone has traced or straight up stolen another person's design or artwork... But, repeat after me: art. theft. is. not. the. same. as. art. STYLE. theft. "art theft" is straight up taking or tracing another artist's work, but "art STYLE theft" implies that because someone is drawing in a SIMILAR way to another artist-- they're stealing their "STYLE." AND THAT MAKES NO SENSE. It's the same with character designs. There's a difference between having similarities, and straight up TAKING a design. I hate to break it to you-- but you will NOT be the first person to have an oc with a plant on their head. Or an oc with a half and half colored hairstyle. In fact, originality is VERY rare these days. Because there's always the possibility that someone-- by chance-- has already come up with a similar concept to yours. And so... Frolicking around and assuming that EVERYONE who has a slightly similar design or style to yours is "stealing" from you, is just... madness. I get it, many of you are protective of your designs and art styles. But at the end of the day-- not only is NOTHING original, but you can't expect to lay claim to the most generic and unoriginal of things. Just because your oc has rainbow polka dots, doesnt mean that another person with the same thing is COPYING your design. At a certain point, these accusations are just irrational and DUMB. I'm so SICK of seeing it. New creators are getting mass reported and harassed, then being BANNED before they're even been on the platform for more than a week. That isn't OKAY. Don't get me started on Scratchers accusing other creators of "art style theft" Why is it that you guys feel the need to stalk random artists, and then if you see the SLIGHTEST similarity in features, you go and start drama about them with another artist. It's ridiculous. And you want to know what the worst part of it is? There is usually little to no evidence to support any "theft" in the first place. Yall will literally see the slightest similarity in a style, then go "OMG YOU'RE COPYING @" "@!! I FOUND THIS USER WHO SEEMS TO BE COPYING YOUR ART STYLE!" NEW PROJECT: I FOUND AN ART THIEF! LETS REPORT THEM OMG!! and then, boom! before we know it, another innocent artist is continuously harassed and then inevitably BANNED by an army of deluded twelve year olds. It's literally a textbook example of "mob mentality" And it's SCARY when Scratch children gang up on artists-- you wanna know why? Because there's hardly any THOUGH PROCESS AT ALL running through their minds. There's just this one objective-- to get you banned. And any other reasoning or logic just gets THROWN out the window. I knew that the human brain remained undeveloped until the age of 25, but HOLY HECK yall werent kidding-- And the funniest part is that YOU GUYS ARENT EVEN DEFENDING your precious artist by harassing others. You are LITERALLY just being problematic. You aren't some "hero" saving the day. You're ACTUALLY just being mini antagonists. So congratulations. And even if the artist yall got banned WAS taking inspiration from another artist, WHO CARES?? that ISNT art theft!! its normal to take inspiration. In FACT you probably have YOURSELF. SUBCONSCIOUSLY OR NOT we all pick up and replicate features of the things and people that inspire us. Art is NO exception. It is NOT okay to harass other artists. Like... don't you all feel EMBARRASSED? Do you guys feel no SHAME??! Like if you MUST-- at LEAST get solid evidence supporting yours claims. Fact check it. Ask the artist in question FIRST. And THEN go from there. No one deserves to be targeted and mass reported for some silly little reason. ... That's all i really have to say. Style theft is not the same as Art theft, and nor should it be treated or handled the same way. I even want to argue that style theft isnt even a real thing in the first place. At the end of the day... Just be a decent chap thats my only request. It's not that hard. But if you TRULY feel concerned that someone is stealing anothers design or style, why not ASK them yourself politely. BAHAHA and a moment of silence to all the artists that met the wrath of the Scratch kiddos.
Just stop doing it if you do it >=T
