Message for numbat! 1 read description before your verdict, its not what it seems, and 2, this is why I need to know where the "hot spots" are :') Magmenedra lives in 2 small islands north of Raptus, in volcanic regions. it is a tertiary consumer in the food chain and preys on anything it can fit in its jaws. it has low intelligence so that it can sustain itself (higher intelligence = more calories needed a day to stay healthy). but lower intelligence doesn't stop it from feeling feelings. Once one mates, they are mated for life and will go to risky measures to protect each other out of love. They have a crystalline spikes from their claws and tail, which are extremely hard and do not break easily, are around 10 times harder than its own bones. they cannot see, so they use a "mane" on their neck to send tiny sound waves. when the waves echo back, forming pictures in their elongated brains so they know what's around them. to make up for their lack of sight and smell (and taste as you will read later) they have great memory, comparable to that of an elephants (thus they can review their echolocation "pictures" anytime they want). Most of their prey is small and can fit in nooks and crannies, so they have long necks and narrow snouts to snatch them. for extra measures, they invested their evolution points in serrated teeth so that it makes prey harder to escape, as well as having them bleed out if they do. They dont actually have lava veins, but its just a unique skin pattern to blend in with their environment since they walk on active lava zones. to not burn alive, they use a kind of insulin as their skin, to keep the hot stuff out while they regulate their own temperature on the inside. This still makes their skin burning to the touch, though. their most notable weapons are their claws and tail. Because their only tertiary on the food chain, there is always a bigger predator, therefore it uses its claws to gash prey as a distraction and intimidation when it rears up on its hind legs (because it walks quadrupedal). The tail does the serious damage, though. most of the muscle is built in the tail, and can pack a high speed punch with such force. the blow packs a 3000 newton smack with this tail, (which actually can spin itself around a little bit because of the force). it can break bones with relative ease, and if it wasn't the end of it, scolding hot spikes are also piercing your skin and likely hitting something vital. Overall, Magmenedra can easily 1v1 apex predators unless they are pack predators, which is where this creature really, really stinks. even the weakest pack creature can take down a Magmendra because their (likely) smarter than it. The outcome is, they have latched onto the back (assuming their fire resistant and not burning alive from it) and are tearing at its skin. the tail could do damage, but the Magmenedra is at least smart enough to know that if they used their tail they would break their own spine, and their claws and neck just dont bend like that. if a Magmenedra does manage to grow, it will find a mate of opposite gender before having eggs and finding a secure location. Unlike their hunting grounds, their nesting areas are usually not on an active lava zone and rather, in a cave on the side of a volcano. the mother sticks with the child at all times while the father gather food for the new salamanders. most family's die because they cant feed themselves with the lack of organisms near volcano's. The rare amount that do survive shed their skin and become a bigger, biped salamander. by this time their parents have died of age and they fend for themselves. soon they will shed their skin again to become a fully grown Magmenedra. They have mauler-like crushers at the top of their mouth. these do the real chewing, but do not damage their tongue, they have a black "roof" on top of their tongue thats as hard as rock and not very flexible, leaving not much room for tongue mobility. This also negates taste, unless they shove something under their tongue. sometimes they open their mouths and smash their maulers on their tongue as hard as they can while roaring to intimidate stuff.
Life cycle: Salamander: 2 years and 6 months Magmicro: 6 months Magmenedra (full grown): 2 years (sometimes 3 longer if they live far away from the forest where they wont catch d i s e a s e) Trivia (ask questions in comments and facts will be put here) -Salamanders can hear and see, but lose it after shedding. -The transformation from Salamander to Magmicro is painful because it sheds off the eyes and ears. ow. - The spikes are crystalline for intimidation, and can vary in color to attract mates. - I didn’t bother putting in an apex tier because somebody is just gonna make something more powerful, kind of blotching the concept up. That’s why I made it adapted for eating smaller stuff. Not even gonna bother with it. I did give it a fighting chance though.
