Dropping in to celebrate the release of the WoT show on Prime. It's been a while, and I'm not coming back to Scratch (I'm active on Tumblr though, @ not-a-darkfriend for book talk and @ elwelcs for art), just wanted to say hello. For those curious about my thoughts on the show, I'm really happy with it. A lot of people are upset about changes being made. However: 1. Having kept up with Rafe Judkins talking about doing the writing for the show, he never put up any false pretenses about keeping things exactly the same. I know not everyone kept up to date with that or was necessarily even aware of it, but yes, it was clear from the start that things would be different. 2. To be able to put things on the screen at all makes some changes inevitable. Some things that can be communicated well in text just don't translate to a show. 3. I think Rafe is smart. He has been a long-time fan of the books, he knows them extremely well. This means knowing both what they do well and where they do poorly. I think his understanding of both of these things is very strong, and I think he has demonstrated that for the most part. I fully believe that any changes he has made and will make are not only intended to improve the viewing experience for new and old viewers alike, but also keep with the spirit of the Wheel of Time. Changes need to happen, and he seems to know how to make good ones. In summary: its good i like it:)
