Was America a Land of Opportunity? That's what this project explains! SPEECH: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello! In this Scratch project, I will talk about if America was a land of opportunity! But I need to say this first: When you feel like it's getting too loud, press down arrow and the volume will go down. Make it louder by pressing up arrow! Let's start! First, why would America be a land of opportunity for the Indentured Servants? Well, they got food and tools once they were done with their term. They would also get free land when they were done. And their term "only" lasted 4-5 years. Finally, they could do whatever they wanted with their land once they were done with their term. Now, why would America not be a land of opportunity for the Indentured Servants? I think that America wouldn't be a land of opportunity because: Their term lasted 4-5 years, which is a long time! They had to toil for long hours at a time, so some of them died during their term, which (of course) was not good for them! Plus, their masters could have been abusive to them, meaning that they wouldn't like what they were doing! But they could not exit their term, because that's what they agreed to. Finally, the indentured servants were being rapidly replaced with slaves, and they may be fired and never even get what they agreed to, and would just be shipped back to wherever they came from! I also have some gains and losses. For the gains, I say: They got money, and it was adventurous, going to the New World! They could get away from debt and hunger. They got passage to the New World. They got freedom after their term. If they owned land, they could vote. They got free food and clothing while serving, plus shelter. However, many things were bad for them, too. Such as: Their term was 4-5 years, a long time. They had strict rules. They could not plant their own crops. They had abusive masters. Some servants were taken against their will. And some masters would just extend the indentured servants' time, even multiple years at a time. So, what do you think? Was America a land of opportunity, or not? I don't think so, but that's what I think! Cast your vote! You can comment or message me! That is all that I have to say for now!
I made this for a school project, about making an artifact and a paragraph about if America was a land of opportunity when it was the 'New World'. I am using this as my artifact. ----------------------------------------------------------------- CREDITS ----------------------------------------------------------------- - My classmates - Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone
