Instructions

SPACE PONG '84 KEYBOARD play: Press any key to begin. Use the arrow keys (or A & D) to move left & right. MOBILE play: Tap or click the screen. Use your mouse or finger to move the paddle. You get 3 balls total. The game gets progressively harder >> the ball speeds up, more barriers appear, and the barriers start to drop towards your paddle. Headphones recommended. Good luck! Follow me at https://scratch.mit.edu/users/Susupe/ If you plan on remixing & sharing this project, make sure you (1) change something significant about the game, (2) make it obvious in the name/thumbnail, and (3) give credit. Thanks!

Description

Be sure to give a ❤️ and/or ⭐️ if you liked it -- thanks! The music track for the keyboard play is "Humbot" by Wave Saver. It was found on epidemicsound.com. YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEW5UWGO0n8 The music track for the mobile play is "Tiger Tracks" by Lexica. It was found on epidemicsound.com. YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCK1zTjgKsk Ball and paddle idea, as well as the project title, influenced by the original 1970s Pong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong Ball, paddle, and barrier sprites created in Scratch. Influenced by the original Pong game and available Scratch sprites. Blinking stars, shooting stars, and glowing lines created by me in Scratch. Background purchased from crushpixel.com. Artist is swillklitch. https://www.crushpixel.com/stock-vector/neon-grid-landscape-sun-with-2615268.html Sound effects (other than the music track) come from the Scratch sound library. Text font is called "Game Played" and was created by Chequered Ink. It can be found on fontspace.com. The '84 in the title comes from the fact that the design, color palette, arcade sounds, and synth music are reminiscent of the 1980s. (The actual year was likely influenced by Wonder Woman 1984.) The project was originally slated to be called 80's SPACE PONG -- but I thought '84 sounded and looked better (and it does). Easter egg appears when score hits 84. Special effects >> juiciness << inspired by the video "Juice it or lose it - a talk by Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho" on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg Code is by me and influenced by the first pong game I coded in Python several years ago. Shout out to all the pong and ball physics tutorials on Scratch and other platforms. This includes the tutorial "Ball Projectile Physics Tutorial" by @griffpatch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge1DbXkyMKo Any code similarities to other pong projects, including tutorials, are due to the fact that there are only so many ways to code a moving ball and paddle in Scratch. I can think of two. But if you look at my code you'll see that it's dense and unique to this project. Could it be cleaner and leaner? Sure. But it works well and I like it. Check out JACK vs. GHOSTS (mobile version featured 10/21) to see that I have experience coding beyond pong games. This is a complete remake of a project I created called SPACE PONG. While trending in the top 3 in October 2021, it was pulled down by the Scratch Team due to reports that (1) I had copied the code from a tutorial without giving credit, and that (2) there was no way a pong game could be trending without the use of bots. Ha. This game is dedicated to everyone's first pong game. Enjoy.
