We got Shadow up to speed on how Calli and Harlow had healed her, then as a group the 7 of us went back to the part of woods we knew best. The shadows had dissipated shortly after Cozbi’s death, but none of us had really noticed. Calli, Naomi, the twins, and I left Ren and Shadow and went back up to the school. The dinner bell rang, and we went to eat. Brazen got spaghetti, Harlow got chicken parmesan, Naomi got lasagna, and I had pizza. It was Italian Food Day if you couldn’t tell. As we walked back to our dorms, I realized that it had only taken us the rest of Saturday and three-fourths of Sunday to solve this problem. That was a world record compared to the chaos of Winter Break, which had taken a full four days. We all went to our dorms, but as much as I tried to go to sleep, I just couldn’t do it. I eventually pulled on a sweatshirt and opened a book. I heard a soft knock on the door a few minutes after 10pm. Naomi’s knock. “Come in,” I whispered-called, setting the book down. She opened the door. “Couldn’t sleep either?” She asked. I nodded. She smiled. “I’ve got something to show you. C’mon.” I stood, took her outstretched hand, and followed her down the hall and over to the eastern tower. She opened a door, and we stepped on to a balcony under the stars. The blue and white winter-themed candles provided a little light, but there were plenty of stars in the sky. I looked up, and could see almost every constellation that was on our side of the planet. “Woah,” I said in awe, most of the vocabulary I had abandoning me. “Beautiful, isn’t it?” Naomi said, smiling. I nodded. “Is that what you wanted to show me?” “Most of it.” We stared up at the sky for a few more minutes. Eventually, I brought my eyes back down to earth. Naomi met my eyes, then kissed me. I kissed her back, and we stayed out under the stars for a few more minutes. “We should probably head back in,” I said finally, a bit reluctantly. Naomi nodded, seemingly just as reluctantly. I grabbed her hand again and she led me through the halls, and back into our rooms. This time, once I laid down on the bed, I fell asleep almost instantly.
