Hanukkah (or Chanukah) is an eight-day Jewish celebration also known as the Festival of Lights. Its start time varies any time from late November to late December because the start date is the twenty-fifth day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, called a menorah.
