TW for poem's content || Implied war/death... it's a bit dark, if you don't think you'd be comfortable reading it you don't have to. last time I shared any of my writing was more than a year ago, it's been too long- And it's been too long since I've actively shared projects also, so here you go- Yesterday, my English teacher passed out a bunch of word slips from newspaper clippings (short passages, typically 1-5 words.) My teacher asked us to write a poem based on the idea of something changing over time and based on something's nature and it's name. We had to use 15-20 word slips. 20-25 lines. And a few more requirements. A lot of my word slips (which I bolded in the poem) were sort of dark, so I decided to lean into it and write more of a reflectionary piece on the outlook of war. In the moment, people see it for what it is, gory, and cruel, yet afterwards, if you've won the war, it is typically looked back on as the freeing of a group of people, sometimes something else. People often forget the sacrifices the war takes to win. (Just a note: This poem isn't directly about any war in particular. It's sort of generic- imo it fits with some pieces of most wars and doesn't fit with other pieces. Just the way it is.) ... If I were to change anything, it would probably be the title haha-
