I watched the moon slowly inch up the horizon, my ears pricked for any sound of intruders; the Queen was plotting, i could feel it in my bones. Meerkat’s encounter was sure to leave a scar on him, inside and outside. Then, a trio of wolves padded into the camp, led by Indigo, the Deputy to the Diamond Resistance. And then I saw her; the most beautiful she-wolf i have ever seen. Her pelt was the colour of daffodils, and triangles of green like leaves were under her eyes and along her ears. And when she witnessed the camp, her eyes were sparkling with wonder like the stars that watched us from above. I twitched an ear in greeting to Indigo, who did not respond as i was the hidden Nightwatch, and i watched as Indigo’s daughter Violet bounded out of the pup-den to meet her mother after a long day of patrol. I watched as the pack soon encircled the small trio, the yellow wolf’s eyes flashing with guarded surprise. Then, after some communication among the wolves, Indigo led the yellow and the blue wolf into the medwolf cave. /// LATER /// “Your watch is over,” a red-and-black wolf named Daemon reported, relieving me of my duties, and allowing me to go check on Meerkat and meet the strangers. “How you feeling, sunshine?” I asked Meerkat as i trudged into the cave, i glanced at the yellow she-wolf, and i caught her blushing at me, quickly, i looked away, feeling myself blush also. Then, a commotion began outside, and I witnessed the beginning of a large battle; many wolves were struck down, some that i knew as my friends, but there was no hesitation as Indigo and the blue wolf bolted headfirst into the fight. And I rushed in also, fighting to protect my pack, the resistance, and the strange yellow wolf whom i could not get out of my mind. As I ripped the life out of a black wolf, i glanced back at the medwolf cave, and witnessed Queen Ekala enter. I rushed in also, and barged into a conversation, witnessing the anger and sadness burning in the yellow wolf’s eyes. I listened to the conversation, picking up on her name, and broke into the conversation, admitting my love to Akela, even though we had barely known each other for an hour. Akela had something in her eyes that first day, something that i could not resist. Was it loneliness? Was it sadness? Or had destiny decided that we meet in this way? But i could not know. As our journey was only just beggining…
