BACK TO PRESENT DAY Hawks was still shocked, but shook the outstretched hand Maddy offered. His whole world was flipped upside down within minutes, what was he supposed to say? "Who took you?" he ended up asking for his first question. Maddy's eyes darkened, "An evil corporation that deludes themselves into thinking they improve society. It was torture, all the training. They wanted me to be a hero. I never got to make any decisions for myself, they were all made for me." Maddy took a sip of Hawks' coffee, since he wasn't drinking it. "So, what's been going on with you since I... left.? How did you manage?"she asked. Hawks shrugged, "Similar think that happened to you actually, except I went on my own free will. A corporation came and offered to sign me. Training was difficult, but in the end I got my dream: to become a hero." Maddy nodded, "I see you on TV all the time, congratulations." Hawks smiled, "What do you do now, since you're not a hero?" Maddy looked away. "Deliveries, I do deliveries," she said without emotion. She turns back to Hawks and reaches out to brush the markings by his eyes with soft fingers, "I always thought they'd fade away. I'm glad they didn't," she said wistfully. Hawks unconsciously leaned into her touch, "Why don't we discuss things somewhere away from where the press could interrupt at any moment?" he asked softly, lost in Maddy's vibrant eyes. A few moments later, Maddy dropped her hand from his face, then nodded. "Your place?" she questioned. He waved for the check, "Sounds good to me."
So I was gone for a few hours at work and just got back right before I started typing this up. Since I was gone for 6 months not that long ago, my dog, Nala, apparently thought I was leaving for a long time again when I left for work. Now that I'm back, she has been sitting on one of my legs constantly licking my hands and face the whole time I typed this story. She missed me.
