Process for making one Escher reptile tile from a hexagon. Make lots of these and they all fit together (tesselate).
Studied the Escher reptile tile. Decoding that, this seems the simplest way to show the rotational symmetries. So the underlying shape is MC Escher's reptile tile. 3 shapes rotate on 3 vertices (order 3 symmetry). The shape of 3 of the 6 sides of the hexagon are simply inverted versions of the red shapes. So there's an underlying hexagon and also a triangle of rotation points.
