Mood lighting also helps your chances. -An amazing scratch entry is sometimes even better than an entry done in another program. -Make your charrie look interesting! Add designs and accessories -Animate! -For some reason, I'm really impressed by amazing eyes... so work on those. -Add a background! A shaded background is always good, and for some reason I like backgrounds that aren't entirely realistic, with a touch of magic. -Change pose/expression! Make it original. Make the pose match your charrie, maybe more hunched over for a charrie with low self esteem or something. -Don't make it look like the example. (I.E.
