Fernkit scrambled out of the bushes behind the nursery and out of camp, Blazekit and Ashkit closely following him. Fernkit had offered to show Blazekit and Ashkit out of camp, just so they could get to know their territory and hunt some prey for the fresh-kill pile. Truth is, Fernkit himself didn't know anywhere outside of camp, but he played along anyways. Fernkit had to bring Blazekit and Ashkit somewhere exciting, though. He blindly led the kits up the tallest rolling hill in their territory. Nectarsong had told him and his littermates about how she and other apprentices had managed to catch an eagle during their warrior test, way back then. Fernkit was excited. What if they managed to catch an eagle, they might be apprenticed sooner, let alone that very second! At the back of his mind, Fernkit could hear a tiny voice whispering to him 'Don't go up there, you don't know what dangers you might face! Go straight back to camp and curl up near your mother.' But Fernkit wouldn't do that, especially when Blazekit and Ashkit were expecting to be going to an exciting place in their territory. Fernkit scrambled up the last of the canopy of green decidous trees, and over the rocky cliffs. Ashkit struggled, but Blazekit pushed his sister upward, and heaved himself up. " You guys made it!" Fernkit exclaimed. " Well, of course we did" snorted Blazekit. Hunger growled in his belly. "Maybe we should hunt..." Fernkit mewled sheepishly. Ashkit scrambled up from sitting. " Yay!" she squealed. Fernkit sniffed, till he scented something other than rocks. "Found something!" he whispered. " Thank StarClan, finally" muttered Blazekit under his breath. "Heard that!" Ashkit mewed as she play-scuffed Blazekit on the ear. Fernkit felt himself growing hot. Ashkit was so nice to him unlike her brother. He sighed dreamily. Suddenly, Ashkit's shriek broke him from his daydream. "I caught a mouse guys! Is anyone hungry?" Fernkit's belly growled as he licked his lips. "I am!" he settled next to Ashkit, just as she took a big bite of the juicy mouse. " Help yourself!" she squealed. Fernkit was in heaven. He didn't even care about Blazekit, who scuffled in disgust to the side. Just as he was about to take a big bite to relieve his hunger, something large blocked the sun. Fernkit squinted in the sun to see what could have done it. He leaped up to his feet as cold realization hit him. It was an eagle! Blazekit scrambled to his side, his eyes wide. The eagle at that very second swooped down, it talons heading straight for Ashkit, who was unaware of the eagle, stuffing her face with the mouse. "Ashkit!" Fernkit dove in front of her, giving prey to eagle's talons instead. Dread filled his belly as the eagle squawked as he grew higher and higher above, until Ashkit and Blazekit were dots in the valley below him. Fernkit curled into a ball and squirmed uncontrollably in the eagle's talons, trying to break free. But that was a terrible mistake...
