Description

So! An optimization has been made to Scratch that messes with the format of studios-- most notably, the 25-comment limit for comment chains. This has caused understandable stress in the Scratch role-playing community, but I'm not going to let a relatively minor setback hold PotHS for very long. That being said, as a community we'll have to adapt a little in order to accommodate this new reality. First, I want to make it very clear that PotHS is not moving-- The studio will remain as-is and will continue to be the main hub for all PotHS-related RP. I've considered alternatives to this, but in my opinion this is the best way to ensure the safety of the RP and the stories within it. The new limit is definitely going to put a crutch in the organization of RP chains, but I have devised some ways to get around this, and I wish to see them-- at the very least-- attempted by the PotHS community: 1.) Keep track of what number comment you are on. This is going to be useful in general. Since 25 is the new limit, make sure that-- if your action takes up multiple paragraphs of comments (*cough* like yours truly *cough*) -- you'll have enough to cover all of them. If not, notify your RP partner(s) and start a new chain to get all the paragraphs in. 2.) Mention that a comment chain is a continuation of an RP, and the participants('s) usernames (and maybe even character names) whenever you start a chain that is a continuation. 3.) DON'T use "carrots" (these: ^^^) to notify other members that a response has been added. This is no longer useful because it is a waste of a comment slot. Instead, notify other RP partners on their profile or in a designated area. More on this later. 4.) Consider limiting the amount of RP chains you take part in at one time to avoid becoming confused. (Unless you're sure you can handle it, of course) On a related note, try not to join multiple different chains with the same people/characters at the same time. 5.) As a suggestion, create a project or some place where you can be notified about activity in RP chains (in place of ^^^) I myself have created a project for this purpose: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/559108567/ 6.) Don't have too many people in one chain. Remember that the more people there are in a chain, the faster the comment limit will be reached. I'm still planning to hold event chains, but haven't come up with a good way to get around this yet and be able to involve a lot of people, unfortunately. 7.) Avoid significant "Out-of RP" chat in the studio itself as it takes up space in the limited comment chains. Short quips and the like are okay. And that's all I have for now, but feel free to drop questions and suggestions! I can expand upon this at a later date if I get some more ideas.
