Instructions

A script: (It's early in the morning, and Alexa is still in bed. Alexa's mom knocks on her door.) Alexa's mom: Alexa! Time to wake up! (Alexa rolls around and attempts to cover her ears with her pillow.) Alexa: Uggh, five more minutes, please! Alexa's mom: Actually, today was mail delivery day..... (Alexa rolls her eyes.) Alexa: You know that we rarely get mail. Alexa's mom- I know, honey, but can you PLEASE check? Just in case? Alexa- All right. (Alexa sits up and slides off the bed and out her door. ) --------------------------------------------------------------- (The screen fades into Kat, working in the kitchen. Her little sister runs into the room, waving an envelope. ) Kat's little sister: Kat, Kat! I just got the mail! (Kat is still busy working, and still has her back to her sister.) Kat: That's nice. Kat's little sister: Don't you want to see what arrived? Kat: Maybe later, I'm a bit busy right now.... Kat's little sister: It's important.... Kat: Ok, let me see. (Kat's sister hands the envelope to Kat. Kat takes it and eyes it up and down. Her eyes go wide.) Kat: A letter? For me? ------------------------------------------------------------------------- (The screen changes to show Brian, sitting on his living room floor and playing video games with a friend (if this doesn't fit the proper time era, it can be changed to a different, off-screen game) It's Brian's turn.) Brian: Score! Dude, that means I won! (Brian drops his controller/cards/game piece (whatever you choose) and smiles. Brian's friend squints at the game.) Brian's friend: Not so fast. Those are MY points you've been looking at! (Brian's face drops.) Brian: Aww, no fair bro! (Now, Brian's friend smiles mischievously and hops to his feet.) Brian's friend: I hope you like doing extra chores, man. Say, I haven't cleaned my room in like, six months, and there's fuzzy gray stuff growing in the windowsill. You might want to start there. Brian: *groan* (Brian slowly and unwillingly gets up. The two of them walk out of the room and out of the house. Brian's friend is excitedly chattering to him about his disgusting room. Brian is trying to ignore it. ) Brian's friend: Oh, and yesterday, this thing with like, seventeen hundred legs, like, totally crawled across the floor. Did you know that... (Brian's friend's chatter fades out as he notices a letter sticking out of Brian's mailbox.) Brian's friend: Yo! Brian, what's that? Brian: Huh? Oh, let's check it out, bro! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Dylan is sitting in a chair at the kitchen table, and his dad is standing across from him. Dylan is sinking into his seat and his dad is busy lecturing him.) Dylan's dad: Dylan! You're in BIG trouble young man! You know not to leave the house without asking! What do you have to say for yourself? (Dylan sits up, defiant.) Dylan: I was just trying to have fun! (Dylan's dad crosses his arms) Dylan's dad: Well, sometimes even "fun" can go too far. You're grounded. (Dylan jumps out of his seat) Dylan: No fair! Dylan's dad: As soon as you finish your chores, go to your room. Dylan: I only have to fetch the mail. (Dylan's dad glares) Dylan's dad: Then hurry! (Dylan, finally feeling guilty hangs his head and walks out the door) Dylan: Yes, dad. --------------------------------------------------------------- (Alexa approaches her mailbox, and finds a mysterious envelope in there) Alexa: An envelope! (Alexa reads the front) Alexa: And for me? (She tears it open, and reads what is says aloud. She's smiling.) Alexa: Dear reader, I'm writing to invite you to the Vine Forest, where a lovely surprise awaits you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The screen now shows Kat reading a part of her letter, confused but smiling) Kat: All I ask is that you meet me there, tomorrow at noon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- (It switches to Brian, who has a puzzled look on his face) Brian: I long for you come, for not my benefit, but your own, ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (Finally, Dylan finishes his letter, frowning) Dylan: If you accept my offer. With kind regards, anonymous. (Dylan squints and looks at it closer) Dylan: At 12, I'll be the only one home. I could sneak out and go! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (The scene shifts back to Alexa, who's still smiling) Alexa: A lovely surprise? Sounds....lovely! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Brian is now shown on the screen. His friend walks up behind him.) Brian's friend: Sounds sick, man! You should go! Brian: Yo, I hop the surprise is money. Then I'd pay YOU to clean MY room! ------------------------------------------------------------------- (Kat is now shown on screen.

Description

She quickly puts the letter down and returns to her chores. Her sister is bouncing up and down.) Kat's sister: Well, are you going to go, or what? Kat: I can't. It sounds dangerous! Kat's sister: If by dangerous, you mean fun, then YEAH! Besides, you deserve a break. Kat: A break would be nice..... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Music plays, and you can see brief clips of the kids putting on their shoes and getting out the door.) End of script. Note: I can make it start when the kids are already in the forest, and I can summarize if you want. This script would yield 3-4 minutes of screen time. I could also add on to it if it's too short. Also, if you don't want to use any of my writing at all, I understand:)
