“Marcus? As in, Marcus Marcus?” Asked Liza. Beth studied the note skeptically. “A flame, Nati? In mid-air? I dunno ’bout this . . .maybe you were dreaming?” “Well, the note’s here.” Pointed out Vally. “It wouldn’t be if she had dreamed the whole thing up!” Beth nodded and handed the note to Liza, who examined it. “Maybe she just found the note on her bedside table, but she was only half awake, and dreamed up the flame.” “Hey, can we stop talking about me like I’m not here?” I asked, starting to get a little bit annoyed. Vally laughed. “Sure. Now tell us if the flame was real, or not.” “How ’bout I show you?” I asked, grabbing the camera from the corner of the room, where my dad had hidden it, in case any boys were over. I had hacked into it a couple of times and videoed my dad talking about it. Anyways, I rewinded it to 12:55 AM. “Yeah, yeah, it’s totally normal to have a video camera recording all night,” said Liza sarcastically. I rolled my eyes. “Here.” I showed them the video. Sure enough, the flame was not a dream. Valentina yawned. “Can this wait until morning?” She asked. I shook my head. “No. This is too important.” I smiled at them. Beth glared, and leaned against the bed, Valentina rested her head on Beth’s shoulder, Liza was really trying to stay awake but dropping. All of them started giving me puppy eyes. “Well,” I said, relenting, “We can spend the night at my house if you want, girls,” I said. They very quickly nodded, so I got out blankets and gave them some of my many pillows. I also gave them stuffies or stuffed animals. Beth declined the stuffies and pulled out one of hers from home. Her favorite one, she had had that one since she was two. It is a mountain lion. “No offense, but I had a feeling we’d be sleeping at your place, so I brought Cougar,” she informs me. I chuckled slightly. “None taken Beth, I have favorites too.” I picked up my stuffed monkey from the bed. I named him Mr. Monkey when I was 6. I’d had him since I was born. The others dropped off immediately, but I took a few minutes. My mind was filled with thoughts of the note. What if Marcus really was in danger? What if I was dreaming? What if I was trapped in some sort of nightmare and I'd never wake up? Ok, maybe not the last one. Then before I knew it, I had fallen asleep. I yawned and stretched my arms, and looked around the room. Empty. I guess last night was a dream? I got out of bed and walked into the hallway. Something ran across the hall and down the stairs. I froze. Then the scene changed.
