One new feature we are particularly excited about is the “Browse projects” option for when you add projects to your studio. Through this feature, you can add projects you’ve created, projects you have favorited, as well as projects you have recently viewed. You can also still add projects by the project URL. Additionally, we’ve made a few changes to the things that managers can do within a studio. Why do this? Over the years, we have heard from many of you that allowing managers to make major changes to studios has made it harder to manage and run a successful studio. As a way to address this, studio owners will now be the only people allowed to edit studio descriptions, titles, and thumbnails, which will prevent others from changing or destroying the work you have done in your studios. This change is intended to prevent misuse of the studio description field, such as managers defacing the studio description or using it as a space for chatting. We’ve also made a couple of changes intended to prevent spam studios and help owners be more intentional about owning and managing studio spaces: First, we’ve limited the number of studio managers to 40. This is intended to limit the number of people who can make major changes to your studio, reduce studio notification spam, and encourage studio owners to be intentional about who they promote to manage their spaces. And second, we’ve limited who can create studios to those with “Scratcher” status. Owning a studio is a big responsibility, and we want to make sure that studio owners are familiar with the Community Guidelines and have spent some time in the Scratch Community. In addition to all of these things, there is a new limit to the number of replies that can be added to a comment thread in studios. Once a thread has reached 25 replies, you’ll no longer be able to add to that thread, though you can always start a new thread to continue your conversation. Studios are intended to be a shared space for many people, and very long comment threads tend to be closed-off conversations between 2 people. We made this change both to encourage everyone to keep conversations open to the community and to improve loading times. Much of this work was done in an effort to improve site performance. As Scratch continues to grow, it is important to us to continue exploring ways we can help keep Scratch running smoothly and quickly for everyone who uses it.
