In 1970, Salvador Allende was elected as the president of Chile, he was the first ever democratically elected socialist on Earth. In 1973, Augustus Pinochet, head of the Chilean Army, set up a military coup and murdered Allende. Next the Stadium at Santiago was turned into a Concentration Camp for socialists and other political enemies of Pinochet where they got killed and tortured. there were also secret torture centers where various people were tortured.
