Okay, I almost never draw backgrounds but I am so freakin’ happy with how this turned out *screams* anyway- 4. Thank you aaaaa :0 ~ backstory (tl;dr summary thing at the end of credits) ~ Ever since Aspen was a small child, her dream was to have a cozy cottage in a forest and she loved to study nature, so when she was 17 and was offered a part-time job at the Ashtan Forest Research Center she was thrilled. Once she turned 18 she started to work there full-time and enjoyed it a lot. But she noticed there was a decently sized area of the forest no one ever seemed to talk about. This piqued her curiousity and she decided to ask about it. All they would tell her was that others were noticing strange activity going on there and they were trying to avoid it. For a while she was content to leave it at that, but eventually she just had to know what the deal was. So after work she snuck out into the forest and headed to that area. Once she got there, she didn’t really see anything suspicious, but she assumed it needed more than just a first glance. But finally, after a couple hours she hadn’t found anything weird, so she went home. The next day at work, after a night of thinking about it, she decided to propose the plan she had come up with. She told them she figured it would be easier to sort out the “mess” (despite having found nothing unusual) if she were to live in that section of the forest for a while. No one was extremely on board with that plan but they decided they would allow it and set to work building her a small house (that was shaped like a mushroom, which is an irrelevant detail hehe) in the forest. She settled in there, and lived her life for a year, still not seeing anything weird about the forest and enjoying the fresh air, walks by the calm river, and collecting cool trinkets. Then one day, she was walking on the riverbank when she saw a small glass bottle with a piece of paper inside. She fished it out, removed the paper, and unfolded it to reveal a simple message, “there isn’t much time” signed with an unreadable signature. She found this a little bit weird, but she figured it was just some kids goofing around, because that was the logical explanation, right? She ended up sticking the note back in the bottle, filling it up with dirt, painting a flower on it, and using it as a flower pot. Then she didn’t give it another thought. ...Until the day when the forest caught fire. She had just woken up and was making herself some cookies when she caught a whiff of smoke through the window. She peeked out the door to see everything around her caught up in flames. Frenzied panic overtook her and she almost unthinkingly grabbed the bottle-that-was-now-a-flower-pot and bolted through the forest, hoping she could make it out in time. She headed for the Research Center as fast as her legs would carry her to alert the others. She was out of breath when she arrived, and she stumbled through the door to find three figures in dark red cloaks (the cloaks had embroidered patches on them with the “signature” thing that was on the letter) standing in the middle of the room. None of her coworkers were anywhere to be seen, she noticed as she whipped her head around, frantically searching for them. “Calm down,” the figure on the right said, as the figure on the left said, “You brought it,” and gesture to the bottle. “We didn’t know anyone would take this seriously,” the middle figure told her. She almost had to laugh at that, seeing as how she really hadn’t taken it seriously. “We need your help,” the middle figure continued, “Will you come with us?” Aspen had no idea who these guys were, but she wanted to save her home, so she agreed. “Great,” the figure on the right said, and the figure on the left added, “As you can see, there isn’t much time.” ~ and that’s all I have of her story so far, but they go on to save the forest from a creepy dude who wants to destroy it, and she gets promoted to co-manager of her job and everyone is happy :D Tl;dr (too long; didn’t read) summary: Aspen goes and lives in a forest that was said to have weird stuff going on in it, finds a bottle with a concerning note in it, the forest catches on fire for unknown reason, she goes to tell her coworkers and only finds three mysterious figures who ask her to help save the forest from a creepy person and they succeed, the end
