This story was originally gonna be how Austria-Hungary and The German Empire meet each other and became friends, but the cringe was slaughtering off too many of my brain cells so I stopped. Lamo Vienna Austria, July 17th, 1877: AE= Austrian Empire HE= Hungarian Empire AH= Austria-Hungary A small figure sat on a low windowsill. The figure gazed out into the garden court yard below him. There were roses scattered everywhere. If only the he could see them. “Austria-Hungary!” A voice called. “He’s wandered off again!!” the voice hissed in a loud whisper to another person. Austria-Hungary slowly slipped off the window and walked down the hall. He’d lived in this palace his whole life. Even though he couldn’t see, he could easily make his way around it. When he finally reached the room where the voices were coming from, he recognized who was talking to him. “Where in the world have you been off to??” AH’s mother, the Austrian Empire, said. “I’ve just staring.” AH shrugged. The Hungarian Empire, AH’s father, who had been sitting on a chair in the corner, suddenly spoke: “You’re blind. You cannot stare. Staring is rude.” He said narrowing his eyes. AH sighed. “I know; I was on the windowsill. I trying to looking out at the roses in the courtyard, not people.” The little country squeaked. Hungarian Empire started to open his mouth to criticize AH’s logic of “staring-without-vision” when The Austrian Empire suddenly cut him off. “Anyway, I wanted you here because it’s time for you to start to learn the ways of the world.” “You will be learning the duties of a country along with your normal studies.” “It’s important for you to know these things so that you can leave a glorious mark on Europe.” AH eyes went wide. “What? Already? why? I’m only 10! Why not wait?” He cried in surprise. AE sighed. “I expected you to say that. But you must understand. The sooner you start, the more knowledge and experience you shall gain,” “I already stated that it’s important. And that’s that.” She said pulling up a chair for the smaller country to sit in. “Now, I suggest we start with your normal studies first for today.” She said handing AH his books that were written in Braille.

Description

Vienna Austria, August 12th, 1877: It had been nearly a month since AH started his “country studies”. (Idk what to call it. Bare with me lol-) Tonight, his parents were having a dinner with Prussia to discuss diplomatic affairs. Usually, AH would be excused from these dinners, but tonight his mother insisted that AH should come so that he could hear what a foreign affairs meeting sounds like. AE and AH sat at the two opposite ends of the long table while AH was stuck in between. An hour past before Prussia showed up. AH could hear his parents hissing at each other in an unsure manner. Then he heard the dinning room door swing open and a new voice: “Good Evening. I hope it’s not too late?” Prussia said. AE rolled her eyes. “More like “Good Night” she muttered to herself.” As HE greeted Prussia, AH heard another new voice enter the dinning room besides Prussia’s. It was younger like his. “I’m sure you all have been previously equated with my son.” Huffed the Prussian as he stepped aside from the new small country as if showing him off like a trophy. I think we have,” said AE motioning to herself and HE. “But I’m not quite sure if our own son has been properly introduced.” AE said turning to AH. That was end of that conversation between the four. Prussia and his son sat down in a seat between AE and HE. AH was listing to his parents talk to the other empire when his mother suddenly spoke to him, “Have you done your normal studies today?” She asked. AH sat up. “No, but I will tomorrow” AH said. Prussia took this as an opportunity to brag: “Well, I heard that “The Old Austrian Empire” has started you on your diplomatic studies”. (See? I told you I could make up a better name for it. Lamo) “Don’t you think your parents waited a little too long?” “I started mine when I was 8.” “And I started his studies when he was 8 too”. “We both learned much faster.” Prussia said motioning to himself and his son. AE suddenly snapped her head up. “This isn’t a competition.” She growled. “There isn’t a need to start as early.” “There isn’t a war going on right now.” She said stiffly. There was a moment of silence. “I think that’s enough talk concerning these two.” AE said glancing at AH and GE. “You two, go to East parlor and study.” AE said waving them off. AH moved out of the dining room and onto the hallway. He stopped to open the parlor door when he heard a voice behind him. “Are you really blind?” The voice asked. AH turned around towards the noise. It sounded like Prussia’s voice, except it was much younger. It belonged to the German Empire. “Yes, but It doesn’t bother me.” AH said opening the door. They both sat down. AH started to pick up his books and read them when GE suddenly interrupted him again. “How can you read if you can’t see?” Inquired the German. AH closed his book with a frustrated sigh. “I have special books for the blind.” AH replied. After a while, the two young countries got to talking more. “What do you do when your not studying?” Asked AH. “Well, my father usually takes me out riding in the forest sometimes.” Replied GE. “I’m good with fencing too,” He puffed. “My father says I have a lot of skill.” AH thought about what it must feel like for such a young person to weld a sword. “Well, I like to go out into the courtyard garden and smell the flowers.” Said AH “Flowers? Those are for girls.” Laughed GE. AH frowned. “Sorry.” GE said. “I did not think that would offend you.” “I thought you were joking.” The young country mumbled. “That’s fine.” AH said. “Wouldn’t expect someone my age to know how to weld a sword with impaling himself.” Both of them laughed. Why did I choose the roles for these countries?: Well, I didn’t just choose them randomly. I kinda based them off of history! The Hungarian Empire is usually harsh towards Austria-Hungary for a reason. In real life, the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary was create without a lot of Hungarian consent. It usually made a lot of decisions without the Hungarian Party’s say. As a result, some of the citizens of Hungary were not vary thrilled of the dual monarchy. The Austrian Empire was pretty much the head of the monarchy. Also the reason why Austria-Hungary gets criticized by his father about his blindness, relates back to the historical stigma surrounding physical disabilities in the 19th and 20th centuries. Also, the Austrian Empire’s and Prussia’s relations weren’t that good in real life. So that’s why I made AE audited towards Prussia kinda huffy and annoyed.
