Carlos blinked, but then nodded. “Okay then.” “Do you live here?” Sadie asked, stopping the silence. “Yeah. Me and 9 other people.” Carlos didn’t say why, but I understood. If I were in prison for 11 years, I wouldn’t want to talk about it either. “Okay,” Sadie said. Carlos sighed, looking relieved that Sadie didn’t ask why he lived here. Eddie started fidgeting with her hands, every 5 seconds summoning a green crystal, then making it disappear. Carlos watched her in amazement. “Woah. Where did you learn that?” Harlow had climbed up into Carlos’s tree house, and was now talking with Danielle, Carlos’s roommate. I turned into a bat and hung upside-down on a nearby tree branch, watching Carlos and the other twins. “At home,” Eddie answered vaguely. Carlos sighed. “You’re just as bad as Daniell.” “Well, we don’t want to give away all our secrets, now do we?” Daniell called down, winking at Eddie. Harlow laughed. Eddie snickered. I flew down and turned back into a human. It was 3 o’clock, and it had started drizzling. “I think we need to go,” Sadie said. Eddie glared at her. “Actually, I think we can stay longer,” protested Eddie. I made eye contact with Harlow. She shrugged. “We can stay until 4. Then we have to go,” I told Eddie and Sadie. We said goodbye to Carlos and wandered back to the cave. Eddie climbed up a vine, swinging on it, as Sadie jumped into the water down below. Harlow sat in a little crevice in the wall, while I turned into a black cat, Harlow’s favorite animal, and explored some of the darker parts of the cave. A small black kitten followed me, and I guessed it was Eddie. I turned around and turned human again. “Hi there.” Eddie pounced on me, crawling onto my shoulder. “Ow,” I said, her claws slightly digging into my shirt. She crawled onto my head, more gently than before. I turned into a black cat again and stood still. Eddie ran off, clawing at the wall and scrambling up, then leaping down and doing that over and over again. I turned back into a human and went back to the main cave, laughing. Harlow poked her head out of her little hole in the wall. “Ready to go back? It’s about 3:50 now.” I nodded. “Eddie! Sadie!” Eddie ran up to us, rolling around a ball of green light. Sadie followed behind her. “Time to go?” Eddie asked, changing back to human, tossing the ball up and down. “We have to,” I explained, gesturing to my sister and I. “Okay. Have fun,” Eddie said, tossing the ball higher. “Wish us luck trying to find the yeti…” Sadie muttered. “The yeti..?” Harlow asked, turning around at the doorway. “Yeah. A yeti is on the run in the mountains near where we live, and we want to catch him and keep him safe underground. We don’t know if there is any more in our world, so we are hiding him until we find a female one.” Eddie explained. “Alright. Good luck.” Harlow looked like she didn’t know what to do with this new information. I grinned at the other twins. “See you around.” “Bye.” Eddie and Sadie said at the same time, then Eddie threw the ball at the ground, and the ball erupted into light. I waved as they disappeared into the light. “Okay. I’m guessing neither of us want detention, so let’s go,” Harlow said. I nodded. “Race you.” She smirked. “You’re on.” I sprinted after her, both of us laughing as the cave disappeared behind us and school came into view, just in time for dinner. Little did we know that there was a small crow sitting in the tree branches along with a black cat and a small turtle quietly watching us.
