Instructions

Next morning, school day. We had the same schedule as usual, and after school, we went to our rooms to do homework. I finished my homework early, so I started writing a letter to Carlos. Carlos, Hi. So, Naomi said you wanted to talk and prepare me for things? Are you in a prison, or what? Should I give Naomi the letters and have her send them, or send them directly to you? Wolf I went over to Naomi’s door and knocked. “Come in,” she called. I opened the door and handed her the letter. “For Carlos,” I told her, closing the door. She took the note, and went back to doing something at her desk. I sat silently, thinking about things. Eventually, she looked up. “Carlos needs Wolf Potions if he’s going to escape. Could you make them?” “Sure,” I agreed. She nodded and went back to writing. Eventually, she finished writing and sent the letters. “What do you want to do now?” I asked. “Brazen, Harlow and I came up with a game. Let’s play it in their room,” she suggested. I shrugged. “Okay.” I followed her to the twins’ dorm. Brazen was at his desk, Harlow was at hers. They were done with their homework. “Want to play the power game?” Naomi asked them. I was confused, but the twins nodded like they understood. “What game?” I asked. “Okay, so we share a power that not many people knew we had,” Harlow explained. “Oh. Who’s going first?” “I can,” Brazen volunteered. He disappeared, and a tiger cub appeared instead. Brazen, the tiger cub leapt onto his bed, and I flinched. Brazen turned back into a human. “Cool, huh?” Brazen smirked, looking at my shocked face. I laughed and nodded. “My turn,” Harlow said. Darkness covered the room. I couldn’t see or hear the twins or Naomi, but my eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness. I guess the others couldn’t see, but I could because I was a werewolf. Harlow caught my eye and smiled. She could see as well. The darkness dispersed. “My turn,” Naomi announced. For a second, nothing happened, then we weren’t in the twin’s room anymore. Well, we were, but it wasn’t the present one. Naomi, Brazen, Harlow, and I were ghost-like, watching Harlow, Brazen, and Naomi playing this same game the Friday after my birthday. “I never knew you could do /that/,” I told Naomi. She smiled in reply. Naomi looked out the window, and I knelt on the floor. Brazen climbed up to the top of their bookshelf, and Harlow sat on her bed. Eventually, we left the memory. “My turn,” I said. I closed my fist, and we could hear wolf howls in the distance. I snapped, then there were a couple wolf pups in the room. Brazen’s eyes widened and he turned into a wolf to talk with them. Naomi smiled and patted one who had crawled next to her. Harlow grinned and used shadows to play with another, while I had a talk with the leader. We could understand each other’s thoughts. /Hello,/ I thought to the wolf /Hello there, Acwulf,/ he replied. /So... I knew I could summon you at will, but why do you do it?/ /We used to be werewolves like yourself. One day, a terrible curse was bestowed upon us. An evil wizard cursed us so that we had to stay wolf-formed. He also bound us to the nearest werewolf, which happened to be you./ /Oh. Where is the wizard now? And why did he curse you?/ /The wizard is dead. At the price of one of our greatest warriors, but no matter. He was my father, though... Anyway, he cursed us because one of my friends, that one your friend is talking to, his father and mother slayed the wizard’s brother because the brother was a werewolf hunter. We’ve had a feud with that family for centuries./ I was silent, but the wolf guessed at my understanding. /What’s your name?/ I asked him. /My name is Beorf. Funnily, it means bear./ /Nice to officially meet you, Beorf./ /You as well, Acwulf./ That ended our conversation. Beorf and his pack left, and Brazen turned back into a human. “What was your wolf pal’s name?” I asked him. “Dango. Nickname for something I can’t pronounce,” Brazen answered. “Oh, okay.” We finished up with our powers, and ate dinner. After eating, we went to sleep to get ready for the next school day.
