Instructions

❶ Look at the rings on the yellow backdrop. The darker rings should appear to have a slight blue tint, while the lighter rings should seem to have a fairly neutral gray tone. (Both actually have yellow tints.) ❷ Look at the rings on the cyan backdrop. The darker rings should appear to have a slight red tint, while the lighter rings should seem to have a fairly neutral gray tone. (Both actually have cyan tints.) ❸ Click/tap the buttons to move the rings, and see how changing the backdrop affects how you perceive the color of the rings.

Description

❖❖❖ Notes ❖❖❖ The color tints in the darker rings is very slight (the saturation value is 2), so it might appear totally neutral against the white backdrop. But if you look inside and check the color in the costumes, you will see that there is indeed a slight tint of the color mentioned above. ❖❖❖ Credits ❖❖❖ Inspired by the amazing color illusions by Akiyoshi Kitaoka, specifically the "Illusory blue ring", "Illusory reddish ring" and "Octopus" illusions on this page: http://www.psy.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/color15e.html There is an abundance of all kinds of illusions on his other pages: http://www.psy.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/index-e.html#allpages Thanks to @KlimbRio1 and @Joke2 for great bug feedback!
