I thought it was suiting for her space-colored appearance and delicate feel. Her story is that she has struggled with self perception all her life, and suffers from bipolar disorder, which essentially means she often goes through mood swings. The frequent mood swings make her feel as though she's not really... HER. And she starts viewing the episodes as a separate entity from herself. The disorder is slowly breaking her.
