(Please note: This is stating my opinion on this matter. In no way should you go far as trying to bash me with anger after reading, as it is just MY explanation into how I view this issue. Thank you.) If you're a fellow person here who loves to draw, you may have heard a rumor spreading about a certain rule that will most likely put a deep dent in the coding website's art community. It states that people must allow others to share an edit on how they put the projects. While other Scratch communities call it a way of enhancing more of embracing inspiration to the world, the art community of this website calls it a sign of more major theft instead. They state that more people in their community will be highly offended by the fact that Scratch wants to give power to the people who want to take their hard work. (and call it theirs in the process.) Theft has been a big problem to the Scratch art community for a very long time, and they've kept on bashing the Scratch Team for not doing anything to prevent it. And this new rule that they've been talking about has made them angrier, and have most likely concluded that Scratch is NOT for talented artists. So is that it for them? Have they lost a part of their internet culture? Have they become more unsatisfied with being in an online community? ... ...not...necessarily. You see, the art community is so protective with their work, that in my perspective, they don't even realize that inspiration plays an important part on teaching everyone to be creative. Sure, someone out there may take someone's masterpiece and call it theirs, but what if it's actually a sign that they want to embrace on saying that the person who drew the art is very talented and they want to show everyone how great they are at drawing? What if they are saying that they want to learn about how to create great art as a whole, and they just want to get into the fun of learning how to do it? That's the thing. Remember, Scratch is a place to teach everyone how to get creative and go wild with whatever they want to make. But if their imagination isn't that huge, then they resort to taking some inspiration of other's people's projects and giving them lots of ideas for what they can make with that inspiration. If all the people are going to be overprotective with their work though, what are they supposed to make then if they can't take someone's idea? Now there is a good chance that you will say there still is a dark side about everything I discussed, and I can understand where you are going there, especially with most of the users here on Scratch being immature with what they do nowadays. What I would do to handle theft is to not worry about the project with the art stolen for the time being. Once it somehow gets a ton more views than the original project that contained the stolen art though, that's where I need to set my alarm. If their project does not contain anything in the Instructions or in the Notes and Credits, I will ask them if they shared the stolen art just to get a good laugh at me or if they just want to show the community how great my art is. If they leave with no answer, I'll just leave them be until further notice. That's my survival guide to art theft. In summary, I'm definitely not saying art theft shouldn't be a problem to the art community. I'm just saying that... ...shouldn't we be a little nicer once in a while? I mean, I'm pretty certain these art thieves have gotten into a sticky issue before in their real lives that caused them to be like this, and I can't help but feel really bad for them for what they had to go through. Maybe they're just doing it to let their anger out, to avenge themselves into living life as normal again. Maybe they're just there to get the popular artist's attention into how they can draw very good like them, and feel proud of how far they can go with their increasing talent after. So in my opinion on this increasingly worrying problem, if the art community wants to live on, we may need to act like the other communities in order to maintain our balance.
