It draws a series of cross-sections (z = k) of the model as it rotates. To do this you need to draw quite a few circles on the edge of an ellipse (I'm assuming that it's an ellipse, I'm not really sure). The major and minor axis of the ellipse are the sine and cosine of the timer.
