So if you haven’t heard some states, most notably Florida, Arkansas, and Texas, have been passing new bills that victimize and discriminate against transgender children. These include but are not limited to: - Making giving children (in this rant, the word child/children is referring to anyone below the age of 18) access to puberty blockers and other transitional medication a crime and child abuse. This basically means doctors can get their license taken away and get arrested if they give children puberty blockers and other such medication. Parents can also be arrested or have their child taken away if they give consent for their child to take these medications. - Transgender children may not join a sports team aligning with their real gender. They have to join the sports team that matches their birth certificate. Children suspected of being trans because of hair length, height, etc., might have to go through unconsentual bottom examinations to see which sports team they will be assigned. This is unbelievably messed up for many reasons including but not limited to: 1. If a medical professional prescribes puberty blockers and other transitional medication, they likely know what they are doing. For a trans kid, that medication can be the difference between life and death. More on this later. 2. Unconsentual bottom examinations are gross, open up the door for possible naughty touch, and a violation of the fourth amendment. 3. Before you say anything about trans kids somehow being a danger/being in danger if they join the sports team that matches with their gender, there is no proof supporting this. Try to give me an example from an unbiased source. You can’t. Preventing trans kids from joining the sports team that corresponds to their gender is preventing a problem that does not exist and the only thing it does is discriminate/victimize trans people. Also, these bills are literally killing trans kids. When you don’t support a trans kid and/or prevent them from transitioning in any way, the chances that they will take their own life goes up drastically (almost 40%). The same happens when you take away access to puberty blockers and similar medication. There is a low chance they will live to 18, when these bills say they can transition. Why? Because most trans people would rather die than live as the gender they were assigned at birth. These bills serve no purpose other than to discriminate against a vunerable group of people. How can you help? -Sign petitions. -Join in any local protests to these new bills that might be in your area (social distance and wear a mask). -Spread this information. (Remixing this project is a way to do it) -Educate people on what being transgender means. The reason these bills are gaining so much ground is because of a misunderstanding people have about trans people. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. Edit: I want to say that it is no longer enough to just say you support the LGBTQ+ community. You need to tell people homophobia is bad, you need to teach people when there is a misunderstanding, you need to say no to laws like this instead of being quiet, etc. Because these things happening and then ignoring them isn’t being a good ally
